    In-Ear Fit & Comfort Guide

A proper fit is the most important thing when using in-ear headphones (wired, wireless, TWS). Without a solid, tight fit the headphones will sound thin (lacking bass), not very loud, and will do a poor job of blocking out unwanted sounds.

In-ears, unlike an earbud design, are meant to be pushed into your ear canal, creating a tight seal. If this seal is not accomplished, you will not experience good results.

    1. Typically speaking, the medium sized ear tip is already installed on your in-ear headphones. If it feels tight or loose, try the other sizes.
    2. As you try each ear tip, rotate forward and/or back until you create a tight seal as seen here. In-Ear Fit Guide - image.png
NOTE: The image shows a stick style in-ear, but this applies to any in-ear design.
    3. As you are twisting and pushing you will hear the sound quality changing. When you accomplish a tight seal, you’ll hear it. You will have more bass than in any other position, and the leakage from outside noise will be minimized before ever turning on Noise Cancelling (if your headphones have Noise Cancelling).
    4. If you have one of our headphones that uses the JBL Headphones App, check in the app to see if there is a “Check My Best Fit” banner. This feature will walk you through getting the best fit and will let you know when you’ve accomplished it.

While this may seem a bit daunting, after doing this a few times, inserting the in-ear headphones into your ears and getting a good fit will become second nature and will take a second or two each time, not minutes. But it is definitely worth spending the few moments the first time around, in order to get the most out of your in-ears.

Still not satisfied with the fit? Please check out this Fit Checker Tool, which utilizes your camera and preferences to recommend earbuds that will not only fit great, but sound great as well!

  • If you have a mesh network (more commonly seen in Eero Mesh networks), it is possible that you may experience your satellite speakers or subwoofer intermittently disconnecting from the soundbar. This is similar to normal interference that occurs with products on a similar wireless frequency. The special thing about Eero mesh networks is that they do not allow you to move a device to the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz band. The system will automatically decide which devices should be on which band and will move them accordingly (switching whenever needed). Some of our soundbars run on a 5Ghz frequency which is where the interference can occur. Since we cannot change the signal in which they operate and we cannot change the band they are connected to via their Eero mesh network, there are a few things you can do to try and stop this from occurring.

    1. Move the mesh nodes far away from the soundbar
    2. Use the 2.4Ghz band instead of the 5Ghz band (if your mesh system allows this)
    3. Ensure to enable/utilize the MU-MIMO setting (not applicable to all mesh systems). Please refer to your router's website to see if MU-MIMO is being utilized by default.

    What is MU-MIMO?

MU-MIMO stands for Multi-User, Multi-Input, Multi-Output. This allows for the router to send a signal to multiple devices at one time vs. the previous version in which the router would be able to connect to multiple devices, but only send the signal to one device at a time.

NOTE: You may notice that when the soundbar is turned on, there may be a dip in the immediate internet speed, but it will go back to normal within less than a minute.

  • Vehicles that have an Active Noise Cancelling system are prone to encounter sound issues when an after-market subwoofer is installed. The sound issue can be described as a hum or low-frequency tone. To understand why this is happening it's important to understand how the ANC system in a vehicle works.

The ANC system's main job is to pick up on any internal/external low-frequency sound, such as engine/road noises, and block them out. The signal is sent to its ANC processor to produce a reverse phase audio signal and is sent back to the speaker system. The inverted phase signal will cancel out the internal/external low-frequency sound, blocking out any unwanted noise.

When you add an aftermarket subwoofer into the mix the ANC system hears the subwoofer output as being part of the engine/road noise. The ANC system believes the low-frequencies being emitted by the subwoofer are part of the unwanted noise and this leads to the ANC system producing an out-of-phase low-frequency signal to block the sub's output.

To identify if your vehicle has an ANC system you can do one of two things.

    1. Look up your vehicle's specifications online and verify if an ANC system is installed.
    2. Drive your vehicle, play music, put your vehicle in park, and then either turn off the engine or open your door. If the subwoofer plays as it should you'll know you have an ANC system.

To fix the sound issue you'll need to disable the ANC system. You can accomplish this by doing one of three things.

    1. Contact your dealership to see if they can disable the ANC system
    2. Use an ANC Bypass Harness
    3. Disable the ANC system yourself

  • What is Proposition 65? Proposition 65 (“Prop 65”) is a California law that requires businesses to provide a warning before exposing individuals in California to any of 900-plus chemicals that California lists as a carcinogen or a reproductive toxicant (“Prop 65 List”). The list is available at: https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/proposition-65-list. The law includes specific warning language that can be used by businesses to comply. The specific warning language is called a “safe harbor.” Why is Harman including this warning? The chemicals in products that require the Prop 65 warning can vary based on product type. Many of the chemicals on the Prop 65 List are common additives found in products such as jewelry, lamps, ceramic tableware, food, lead crystal glasses, electric cords, automobiles, beauty products, and furniture. Does this law apply everywhere? No, Prop 65 warnings are only required under California law. Are Harman products that display the Proposition 65 warning safe? Harman is committed to making products that comply with all applicable laws and that are safe to use. California’s Prop 65 is not a product safety law, but a chemical right-to-know law. We believe our products are safe when used as intended. I purchased this product outside of California, why does it include a Prop 65 warning? Harman sells products throughout the U.S. We do not know where each item will ship. We have no alternative except to place the Prop 65 warning on all of our products regardless of where they are sold. For more information go to: https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/general-info/proposition-65-plain-language If you have any questions about any of our products, please contact: LA.PROP65@harman.com
  • If you are having trouble pairing your headphones or if your device is asking for a PIN, please make sure to check all available BT connections in your device's settings. Verify that you are connecting to the headphone's product name that excludes 'LE'. The 'LE' connection is only intended for voice assistant feature compatible with your headphones. If the voice assistant feature has not yet been configured, this would explain why the 'LE' connection appears as an available connection, but cannot be used for Bluetooth audio.

  • 1. Disconnect/unplug the product from the network cable. If dealing with a smartphone, forget the wi-fi on the phone. 2. Shut the router completely OFF. (do not reboot, you must turn it completely off) 3. Boot the router up and let it complete it's connection with everything, usually a few minutes. 4. Shut the router completely OFF, again. This is REALLY important. Before turning it off a second time, the router still has the product in it and is looking to connect to it. Shutting it off a second time allows the router to go through a complete power cycle without ever seeing the product, so it will remove it from its system. 5. Boot the router up, again, and let it complete it's connection with everything. 6. Now plug-in/turn on the product. The router should find the product and all should work. 7. If dealing with a smartphone, search for the wi-fi and reconnect to it. All should work after this.
